How to choose your bridal hair & makeup artist

Looking flawless while still feeling like yourself is the goal. A great hair and makeup team understands your style, respects your features and works on realistic wedding timings. After seven years planning, what matters most isn’t only talent: it’s professionalism and punctuality. We asked Angie, our specialist, for her keys to choosing with confidence.

What to research before quoting

  • Real bridal portfolio (not just social looks). Check skin work, natural light and long-wear finishes.
  • Reviews and references from planners/brides; ask about hot/humid climate experience.
  • Team: if others will get services, how many artists? Do they bring a tall chair, lights, extensions?

Quote & trial

  • Ask for a bridal package with trial included and time per person (45–60 min each).
  • Schedule the trial 4–6 weeks before; bring veil/comb, earrings and a photo of your dress.
  • Ideally do the trial on a day with plans (civil event, shoot) to test real-life durability.

Products & technique

  • Skin: prep (primer), long-wear/photo-friendly bases; options for sensitive skin.
  • Eyes: test lashes (individuals or strip) and hypoallergenic glue; sealing for humidity.
  • Hair: hold according to comb/veil; if using extensions, confirm in the quote.
  • Hygiene: clean brushes, in-date products, visible sanitizing.

Day-of: timing & logistics

  • Set the order: first hair for everyone, then makeup for everyone, bride last to stay fresh.
  • Prep a space with natural light, clear table, power outlet and comfy chairs.
  • Assign someone for closures/bustle and lipstick touch-ups.

Contract & formality

  • Dates, times, headcount (bride + party), address and phones.
  • Tardiness policy, cancellation, travel fees and overtime if needed.
  • Who brings the retouch kit and what it includes (lipstick, powder, setting spray, pins).
Tip: Bring separate references (skin, eyes, lips, hairstyles) and flag what you DON’T like. Clarity saves time.
