Wedding tables: styles, dimensions & centerpieces

Wedding table setup with floral centers and warm lighting

Your wedding tables shape the room’s look and guest experience. Here’s how to select table types, centerpieces, dinnerware and lighting.

Table types

  • Round (∅ 1.50–1.80 m): easy conversation; guideline 8–10 guests.
  • Imperial/banquet (0.90–1.10 m wide): elegant feel; arranged in runs.
  • Square (1.50–1.80 m): modern; combine with long tables.
  • Cocktail/highboys: dynamic receptions.

Dimensions & ergonomics (guide)

  • Allocate 60–75 cm per person on long tables.
  • Keep 1.2–1.5 m aisles for service and flow.
  • Centerpieces: low (<30 cm) or tall (>60–70 cm) to keep sightlines clear.

Centerpieces, dinnerware & lighting

  • Mix centerpiece heights for visual rhythm.
  • Textiles: full cloths, runners or bare wood tops.
  • Dinnerware: charger, glassware and cutlery aligned to the palette.
  • Warm lights, candlesticks or string lights depending on ceiling height.

Seating plan

  • Map by sections; factor accessibility and age groups.
  • Clear signage (escorts/seating chart) at the entrance.
  • Sweetheart/head table with good visibility.
